Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy: Harness The Healing Power Of Oxygen
What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?
Mild-grade hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a therapeutic treatment that speeds up the body's natural healing process by having the patient breathe in 97% oxygen in a total body chamber where atmospheric pressure is increased and controlled. It is used for a wide variety of treatments, usually as a part of an overall medical care plan.
Under normal circumstances, oxygen is transported throughout the body only by red blood cells. With HBOT, oxygen is dissolved into all of the body’s fluids, the plasma, the central nervous system fluids, the lymph, and the bone and can be carried to areas where circulation is diminished or blocked. In this way, extra oxygen can reach all of the damaged tissues and the body can support its own healing process. The extra oxygen makes it much easier for white blood cells to kill bacteria. It also reduces swelling and speeds up the growth of new blood vessels in the affected areas. It is a simple, non-invasive, and painless treatment.
Why is this Important?
Oxygen is life. Most disease processes and damaged tissue require oxygen for healing. The air we breathe is only about 22% oxygen, with the rest being nitrogen and carbon dioxide. Breathing concentrated oxygen in a pressurized environment saturates the whole body and allows oxygen to get to areas of low blood flow and inflamed tissues with ease.
It’s like when you purchase a bottle of soda, the CO2 (carbon dioxide) gas bubbles are under pressure, which decreases the size of the bubbles enough that they dissolve into the liquid. Therefore, you are unable to see them. When pressure is released, the volume of each bubble increases, and the bubbles appear. This exponentially increases the oxygen delivery throughout the body and makes it possible for oxygen to reach inflamed tissue and support optimal cellular and organ functionality.
When you buy a bottle of soda, the CO2 gas bubbles inside are under pressure, which makes the bubbles smaller so they can mix with the liquid. As a result, you will not be able to see them while they are under pressure. When the pressure is removed, the volume of each bubble increases and becomes visible. While an individual is under pressure, the oxygen molecules decrease in size and are able to dissolve into the blood plasma. This makes it possible for extra oxygen to reach diseased, damaged, and inflamed areas while supporting optimal biological function.
Who Benefits?
EVERYONE: Anyone dealing with Traumatic Brain Injuries (concussion and post concussion symptoms), wound healing, brain fog, arthritis, soft tissue injuries, sports injuries, circulation issues, nerve damage/neuropathy, stroke, tinnitus, autism, surgery recovery, hypoxia (lack of oxygen levels in the tissue), and much more. HBOT is also a great way to boost overall athletic performance and recovery.
Pro Tip: Combine a series of HBOT with a month’s supply of our anti-inflammatory and tissue-healing Revive Peptides.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does it work?
The patient will lie inside the chamber as the pressure in the chamber is increased and oxygen levels are increased. Being in this oxygen-rich environment, along with the increase in air pressure, speeds and multiplies the concentration of oxygen molecules in damaged or impaired tissues, thereby promoting healing.
Are there any side effects?
Typically, we don’t see any lasting side effects. Due to the increase in pressure, some clients experience slight discomfort as we inflate and/or deflate the chamber. Sometimes there can be a lingering discomfort in the ear following a session, but this usually subsides fairly quickly.
Is there anything I can do while I am inside the chamber?
The Hyperbaric Chamber can be very relaxing. You can choose to take this time to decompress and relax without distractions. However, if you need a distraction to help with being in the chamber, you can take your phone or table with you and watch a show or listen to music. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable.
How long does treatment take?
Our sessions last an hour. Treatments continue for various amounts of time, depending on the client’s specific diagnosis. For example, treatments for chronic issues like autoimmune disorders, chronic fatigue, tinnitus, tissue healing, etc. could continue for up to 20–40 sessions. Other more minor or acute issues may also need less treatment. We also have clients that use Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for general wellness, and the general recommendation is at least five sessions within the first month. Then, depending on progress, we recommend maintenance, which typically occurs around 1–4 times a month. Please consult with our physicians if you need more guidance on your issue.
